Owning our own story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we will ever do.

ABOUT ME

ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Meighan. I am a Registered Social Worker with over 20 years of experience. I currently reside on Treaty 4 territory. My counselling practice supports individuals, couples and families through empowering and strength based approaches.

My clinical practice derives from a critical social work perspective that is concerned with and conscious of how context, or the worlds we live in, impacts our lived experiences. My approach is not focused on diagnosis or dysfunction but is instead focused on the strengths and resources people engage with to help them get through hard things. My goal as a counsellor is to help people gain awareness to the factors and circumstances that may be impacting their overall wellbeing, and to support them in making healthy changes for their own healing and growth. My approach emphasizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship and our connection in our work together. My practice is collaborative, and I work hard to help people feel safe and cared for in order to do this work. With attention, care and acceptance I help others explore stories that may have previously felt unsafe or too difficult to explore alone. I believe, like Brené Brown, that with support and acceptance, we all have the capacity and courage to own our own stories, and to love ourselves through that process.

I am also a PhD student. My PhD research examines the nature of belonging and the affective qualities of belonging that work to increase or decrease our depth of connection in relationship and community. I am interested in the ways emotions ‘circulate’ in our relationships leading to experiences of (un)belonging and (dis)connection in our lives.

My therapeutic approach is informed by my own vipassana meditation practice as well as my yoga practice and training, and acknowledges the holistic nature of wellbeing.

My practice is non-judgmental, collaborative and compassionate.
